Watched a Carl Sagan youtube on the 4th spacial dimension. Sensible, but what purpose?

Not sure... it would help in understanding the seemingly random behavior of subatomic particles, but I haven't heard of foreseen daily applications of this knowledge. Of course, the keyword is "foreseen".
