So my boyfriend and i are going to cabo or la paz in early oct. should we make reservations or just show up?

we want to fly into cabo /las cabos because of the cost and time savings but would most likely only spend a few days there then head up to la paz for a few days as well. is it stupid to go that time of year with no hotel reservations?
